When the birthday of a close friend or family member comes up, it is only natural to want to send the best possible sign of your affection, and there are few better ways to that than by sending birthday cards. Birthday cards are part of a time-honored tradition that is unfortunately practiced less and less nowadays, since most people are more inclined to either send a text message or an email greeting. More recently, many people have simply gone the FaceBook route and posted their greetings on the birthday celebrant's wall.
While there is something to be said about the convenience of such modern means of communication, they somehow leave an impersonal feeling, much like an automated voice mailbox voice or wake-up call would. There is a lot less of the human interaction, the personal touch, and the warm cozy feeling that birthday cards express so wonderfully. Leave the FaceBook posts and email greetings to the people you aren't that close to. For the special people in your life, why not take the extra step and send them birthday cards the next time their special day rolls around?
Of course the issue now is where to get your birthday cards. Again, it is easy enough to simply walk into a stationery store and pick out the birthday cards that you think your friends or family members will like. While there certainly are quite a lot of tastefully done birthday cards out on the market, you run the risk of leaving the same impersonal feeling when opting for commercially made cards. Therefore, you may want to give some thought to making your own birthday cards.
It really doesn't take much to make your own birthday cards if you already have a computer and a printer. Your computer will likely have a graphics program of some sort even if it is a simple one, and there may even be templates for birthday cards provided. These will give you a good start even if your design skills aren't exactly pro-level.
Regardless of whether you choose to buy your birthday cards or make them, remember the sentiment that lies behind it and strive to impart some of that in your message. It isn't everyday that you send out birthday cards, so make sure that they are truly special on the rare occasions that you do send them!
