Children oriented products are exploding in market value in the current economy. With the economy in the toilet and the stock market not far behind, many advertisers are finding that children are a viable market. Children have free time and an ability to influence how their parents spend their money. This means that advertisers are missing a major market when they ignore children. In the past advertisers have ignored children in favor of parents as they have the pocketbooks, but now advertisers are beginning to realize how much of an influence children exert over their parents. Thankfully for stock holders many marketing companies are realizing the market possibilities that kids shows offer.
Kids shows are often cheap to produce, and film. Kids shows often allow for a lot of in show marketing and advertising as well as children are not as perceptive as adults are. Kids shows allow for frequent advertising strategies such as product placement. Product placement is when a company sponsors a television show and the television show signs a contract stating that in the show there will be a certain amount of airtime in which the characters utilize the sponsors products, or that the products will weave their way into the story line somehow.
Kids show are currently extremely popular with small children. Kids shows reach a demographic that has massive amounts of free time and is very malleable. As anyone who works in advertising or marketing would know, to get people to express brand loyalty it is best to start them on the product while they are young, and kids shows offer a great opportunity to get life long customers. While it is true children themselves do not make any purchases, children have heavily influences into what their parents purchase, as any parent who has had a child endlessly nag them for a particular toy knows. It would be a large error to underestimate the influence that children have on adult spending power and brand loyalty. Kids shows present this opportunity and more and more marketers are beginning to sponsor kids to tap this untapped well of customers.
